Is Lentils low FODMAP?
Moderate — depends on portion
FODMAP group: GOS (galacto-oligosaccharides)
Serving guidance
Canned, rinsed lentils at about 1/2 cup are low-FODMAP; dried-and-boiled are higher in GOS.
Why
Lentils are more forgiving than most legumes. Canned and rinsed, a 1/2-cup serving is low-FODMAP — the canning leaches out much of the GOS. Dried lentils you boil yourself are higher.
Low-FODMAP swaps
- Canned, rinsed lentils in modest servings
- Firm tofu
