Is Banana low FODMAP?

Moderate — depends on portion

FODMAP group: Fructans

Serving guidance

A firm (just-ripe) banana is low-FODMAP; a ripe (spotty) banana is higher in fructans.

Why

Ripeness matters for bananas. A firm, barely-ripe banana is low-FODMAP, but as it ripens the fructan content rises, so a soft spotty banana can be a trigger for some people. Common as a safe fruit when eaten firm.
